Home / Shop / Herbal Blend

A 100 g loose herbal blend for a mug instead of a third coffee. Pumpkin seeds, nettle, mint, chamomile and green tea give a nutty, green, slightly bitter cup. This is food, not a medicine and not a diagnosis.

100 g usually lasts a few weeks at one or two mugs a day, depending on the spoon. Keep the pouch sealed, dry and out of the Cape sun on a windowsill.

There is green tea in the mix, so there is caffeine. Drink it after 16:00, not as the last cup before bed. If you want a warm drink later, brew ordinary caffeine-free rooibos. It is still fluid.

How to brew

  1. One teaspoon of the blend for about 200 ml of hot, not boiling, water.
  2. 3–5 minutes under a lid. Strain.
  3. One mug in the afternoon, a second if you like it — still early evening. It tastes cleaner without sugar. Honey only if you must.

Why not at 21:00

Caffeine from green tea can still wake you and it acts as a diuretic — exactly what the night does not need. Leave this blend for after 16:00, not for the last episode. If you already sleep badly, stop fluids two to three hours before bed. In a hot Durban evening, sip water earlier in the day rather than catching up at night.

What each plant is doing in the cup

Pumpkin seeds give the nutty bite and a reason to chew a stray seed at the bottom of the mug. Nettle and birch leaf keep the cup green and slightly dry. Mint cools the finish so you are less tempted to add sugar. Chamomile rounds the bitterness of green tea. Green tea is the caffeine — useful at 16:00, unhelpful at 21:00.

None of these plants is a prostate protocol. They are a flavour you can repeat on a Wednesday when the office machine is still calling. If a herb on the pouch is a known allergy for you, skip the blend. If you take warfarin, blood-pressure tablets, or several prescriptions, ask a pharmacist before you drink a new mix daily.

A practical fortnight

Week one: replace only the 16:00 coffee. Keep morning coffee if you want it, last cup still by 15:00. Write down night trips. Week two: if nights are quieter, keep the mug. If they are not, you have a note for the doctor and you still have a decent afternoon drink. Pair it with the night-waking article rather than with a second pouch “to make it stronger”.

Heat: brew as usual, then let it sit two minutes. Iced herbal tea in a huge tumbler at 20:00 is still volume plus caffeine. A small mug on the desk at 16:00 is the format this pouch is for.

Questions about the blend

Does it treat the prostate?

No. It is a drink to replace a late coffee. Comfort after forty is hours, salt, movement and, when needed, a clinician.

How strong is the caffeine?

Less than a large filter coffee, more than rooibos. If caffeine keeps you up, switch to ordinary caffeine-free rooibos after 18:00.

Can I add milk?

You can. The flavour is cleaner without it. Do not sweeten it into a dessert if you are watching night waking.
